Worship During lent

Lent lasts for the next 40 ordinary days plus the Sundays along the way which are already considered Holy days. The extra 40 Holy days symbolize the 40-days Jesus spent praying in the wilderness. As followers of Christ, we are encouraged to humble ourselves -- like Christ, to focus on drawing close to God -- like Christ, and to open ourselves to God in holy prayer -- like Christ.

So, we pause with Christians around the world to look inward. By doing so, we realize how cluttered our lives have become, how much energy we expend on wasteful measures, and maybe that our relationship with God has diminished. Then we better understand why the church fathers suggested such a time as Ash Wednesday and Lent. We get so busy being busy that we become too busy for God and we fall more easily to the temptations of life. When we succumb to temptation we create distance between ourselves and our God.

When we acknowledge and accept responsibility for our own lack of spiritual discipline, we want to do something like heap ashes over us as we enter God's presence humbly and seek divine forgiveness. Humbling ourselves and drawing closer to God brings about genuine and lasting joy. May you discover the JOY of the Lenten Season.

We invite you to join us for worship.
Sundays at 11:00 a.m.

Welcome to The Chapel Door

We are a Christian community of faith with an open door. We believe God loves all people and therefore we accept all people. We are an ecumenical congregation welcoming all varieties of faith traditions. Therefore, we welcome all denominations and celebrate our common faith rather than become divided by doctrinal teachings.

We are a progressive community of faith. We pattern our lives around the actual teaching of Jesus, we understand that there are many religions that have found a way to connect to God, and we find more grace in seeking understanding than in arguing with dogmatic certainty. We are inclusive of all people without regard to political affiliation, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender, race, or ethnic origin. As the body of Christ, according to the scripture, we seek unity through love, prayers, mission endeavors, and shared confessions of faith without compromising basic Christian ideals.

Our alternative worship experience includes a blend of music, readings from Holy Scripture, messages that move us forward in our thinking and living as people of faith, leadership from laity, praying for people around the world, and praying for each other. We have created an atmosphere that is warm, reflective, and personal in a community setting.

We are a young congregation and invite you to join this community as we together explore our relationship with God, enrich our lives, and impact the community with the principles of Jesus--in the spirit of love, grace and mercy.

We would love to see you! You won't find a more welcoming and accepting group of people.

What In the World?
"I was hungry and you gave me food . . . "
"I lost everything and you gave me clothes . . . "
"I was lonely and you became my friend . . . "
"I was thirsty and you gave me clean water . . . "

The Lord's Acre

The Chapel Door extends its mission to the community by welcoming churches and community volunteers to develop the garden and produce food for the hungry. Two acres of the church's land is used in this way for Feeding the Hungry in this cooperative effort. Volunteers are welcome.
